What Worked
Thankfully the antics of Shawn Michaels, HHH, Chyna and Rick Rude saved us from a boring Bret Hart interview and took the bad taste away from Kama vs. Owen Hart. As a one time only gimmick to boost the usually dead taped RAWs I liked the clique invasion.

Nova and Max Mini vs. Tarantula and Mosaic was cool in an all over the place way. Too bad Vince and co. couldn't give much of a rat's ass about calling the match. Nice tope con hilo by Max! I don't think the minis experiment #2 is working though, the WWF needs to concentrate on getting the light heavyweights over first.

Steve Austin was almost jovial tonight doing his schtick with McMahon. Another very good interview. The biggest problem with RAW at the moment is that most of the good stuff isn't wrestling but interviews, angles and run-ins. On the other hand you could make the case that this makes PPVs more special, something they haven't been in a few years.

With the exception of the bad ending, Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Brian Christopher was really good. Tajiri hit almost everything and they both worked stiff. Christopher can work a decent light heavyweight style match when he concentrates more on the match and less on playing an old school heel. Just a really bad ending though.

Jim Cornette's Phil Mushnick rant was awesome! He didn't stumble over any words like he did last week so his delivery was near flawless. If they can keep the topics fresh then they should make this a regular thing. This is the best use they've made on camera of Cornette in years.

The continuing goofing around by the clique before the scheduled HHH vs. Patriot match was more entertaining than the actual match would have been. It's weird watching Rick Rude play the same role in two different promotions. He does a better job in ECW but then he's probably give more creative leeway there as well.

What Didn't Work
Cane and Paul Bearer are the worst thing about RAW these days. Can't they just keep them to Shotgun Saturday Night or something? Is Flash Funk going to win this year's Al Snow Bad Career move award? I almost want to recommend it all for the Shawn Michaels ending but, no.

DOA vs. The Truth Commission sucked, no big surprise there. Jackyl looks like an improvement, the Commandant was pretty funny but his gimmick was way outdated. But I was laughing at the ludicrous political discourse between McMahon and Lawler. Sometimes these guys just haven't had enough sleep before they tape.

Vince continued to verbally attack Hulk Hogan during the otherwise undistinguished Savio Vega vs. Goldust match. Hey, I thought it was funny! Isn't it strange that the wrestler who wins with the help of his valet's purse is the babyface? TAKE OFF THE SUIT DUSTIN!

LOD vs. Godwinns had an overbooked finish which wasn't necessary given that the LOD, for all intents and purposes, went over clean anyway but if it was a quick way to nix the Cletus experiment then I'm fine with it but one departed hillbilly does not make up for the lifeless match itself which reminded me that I often wonder why they don't always turn it up a few notches for a title change, let alone a title match , which is the case in All Japan where every title match is a big event.
