What Worked
The Outlaws and Southern Justice had a wrestling match and I didn't hate it. Weird. I think the break up angle sucks because I like units to be strong for a long time before even thinking about breaking them up. It adds legitimacy to the group and makes the split more dramatic. If this is just another tease, then that would suck too 'cos they did that one already this summer. If Gunn gets a singles push, it's gonna boggle my mind like Maivia: guy with decent charisma, ok selling, '80s move set, pushed to the moon, fans going nuts, me asking WHY?!?

Owen Hart pulled the best match out of Dan Severn in his short WWF stint so far. I'll put it up here for that alone. I'm confused as to why there was so much speculation about Severn's injury being a work. A big red flag should have gone up when Owen used that variation of the piledriver. The last time he used it he injured a guy legit, so the logical thinking is: don't use that move ever again, unless we want to get an angle over.

I liked the 6-man four corners match a whole lot, it was a real bunch of fun. Action, moves, goofy psychology, the crowd loved it, I dug it, everyone wins.

Val Venis and X-Pac had the best match on Raw, 'cos X-Pac is the real deal and Venis tries hard and succeeds. It was an unfortunately screwy finish but not the kind that really bothers me, and hey, it's the WWF, etc. The return of Goldust is a good idea. I would have preferred to see Dustin get over as himself but it doesn't look like they had any real focus for him after he torched his costume. So, I think this kicks the feud up to another level, and I'm having fun watching it unfold.

Something is wrong with The Rock's mega push. I felt the same indignation watching Maivia pin The Undertaker that I did when Kendall Windhman pinned El Dandy. And there's something wrong when I feel indignation about anybody pinning The Undertaker. This week's main event was a decent match though. The crowd being way into it always helps. I want to make a case for Paul Orndorff's fancy elbow drop 'cos it was head and shoulders above the routine Maivia is currently doing. Check out Orndorff's work a year or so before he was forced to retire and I think you'll agree. Heck, the Rock doesn't even have the best drop in the WWF, Road Dog's is much better. Maivia is this decades Dusty Rhodes. You read it here first!

What Didn't Work
Oh boy, Undertaker and Kane are gonna fight again. McMahon et al still bore me with this angle. It's strange that Bret Hart is still being referenced in the promotions top storyline. The finish to Survivor Series '97 has been the most influential event of the past year. The best part of this whole thing was Mankind trying to nurse McMahon with a super big gulp. Mick Foley is awesome.

It really sucks that Vader's jobbing to everyone in sight because he's fat. Hey Titan, that's his fucking gimmick! He's a bad ass fat guy who works stiff as a brick upside your head. Mick Foley ain't exactly svelte and you push him. Vader is a former IWGP and WCW world heavyweight champion! Show some damn respect! Al Snow doesn't really wrestle like he used to. This match sucked 'cos Snow used head to win again. Anyway, I just read that Vader has basically been let out of his contract. He's still got enough of the good stuff left in him to make a tour of All Japan, say, right about the time of the Real World Tag League tournament! ECW could make good use of him too.

Blink and you missed Farooqs return to Raw. You didn't miss much. What do you know! Mark Henry's getting personality!

The Oddities gimmick couldn't sustain my interest so I'm going to not like them for a while. Ah well, at least they add a bit of colour to the festivities unlike, say, DOA and Southern Justice. The Headbangers have been long overdue for a change in direction but going after Golga et al ain't exactly gonna draw big heat.
