Things I did during my Jet Blue flight from Boston:
1) Watch some psychotic harpy named Nancy Grace butcher the Benoit story.
2) Watch Alan Colmes wrassle with Leapin' Lanny Poffo over the Benoit story.
3) Watch Dusty Rhodes set up a Texas bullrope match with Randy Orton on RAW.
I think I've seen Nancy Grace's name tossed around here before, probably in the so-called "Evil" politics forum. I had no idea idiots like her could get air time outside of Pat Robertson's network. The various daytime "news magazine" hosts on the cable news channels were all pretty bad.
One of the good things about the Benoit story is the way it brings together people who normally look for excuses to fight, like Hannity and Colmes. I haven't felt this much love since Reverend Ike got grilled by Pat Buchanan and Tom Braden on Crossfire. Poffo came off like a WWE apologist.
I found myself wondering why Vince, er, Stephanie McMahon is pushing Dusty Rhodes. Is it to prove that not every pro wrestler dies before his fiftieth birthday? Is it to prove that body shape doesn't matter? Is it to woo disaffected fans away from the nostalgic weekend fanfest circuit? All of the above?
Meanwhile on ESPN, a series of bulked up ballplayers clubbered meaningless home runs in the park Barry built, without a hint of irony.

| If this wasn't the WWE and Vince I would swear Jim Crockett was back and this was late 80's early 90's WCW. Dusty's got another fruit of his loins looking to break in the business and he's got him a big push straight out of the gate. Then again, Steph probably isn't any smarter than Jimmy boy was and she's drank the Dusty Kool-Aid. |
