Both Kennedy and Taker get serious injuries and the WWE has to call an audible. They have Edge win the MOTB briefcase from Kennedy on Raw, and he immediately cashes it in on Smackdown to get the World title. Not a bad idea, if slightly botched in the execution by having Edge put up nothing in return in the first match.
But then in Edge's "last match on Raw", what do they do?
He loses to Shawn Michaels.
Clean as a sheet in the middle of the ring.
While Michaels is running an "in the middle of a concussion" injury angle.
In a non-title match.
Which makes the World title pretty much worthless, and Edge a completely pathetic loser who can only beat opponents who are already knocked out by somebody else... and not even then.
And he's now the only top heel on Smackdown.
Oy. |

That was both disgusting and sadly foreseeable. The entire match consisted of Edge punching and kicking Michaels in the head, and Shawn looking like he was near death, then Edge missed a move from the top rope, allowing the Power of Christ to heal HBK of all of his wounds, hit four moves and win.
I wouldn't have minded something closer to Cena's loss to HBK from a few weeks ago, a hard fough, evenly matched contest where the non-champion won. There's no shame there. But to have Edge dominate the match, to have the storyline be "Shawn Michaels is crippled from the beating he took last week", and for Edge to lose like he did was just plain dumb. Michaels doesn't need the heat, Edge does. Shawn should have taken a play out of Undertaker's playbook from last week, when a zombie sit up ended with Taker collapsing on his side. Now that was a nice touch.

Vince: Shawn, you're going to wrestle Edge this week. As I said in my report to the Stockholders, I want to see a better wrestling product so...
Shawn: Whoa whoa there Vince, don't get ahead of yourself! Edge has to pay his dues for leaving Raw. We have to job him on the way out of the brand!
Edge: But... I'm still in the WWE... I'm not leaving... I'll still be at PPV's...
Shawn: Veteran talking here!
Vince: Okay Shawn, but only because I still love your theme song. Such a sexy boy... |

| I suppose Shawn getting his heat back after failing to do a proper job for the seven foot monster the Great Khali last week is much more important than having a strong heel champion whose in a long term money drawing position. |

That's been WWF, E and whatever else they've been called booking philosophy for as long as I can remember. They have had very few long term heel champions up top, it's always been a strong face, chicken sh*t heel company. |
