From adam schefter:

Quote:
Trade official: Darrelle Revis passed physical. Bucs send 1st in 2013 and conditional 4th in 2014 that could be 3rd to Jets.

and its a 6 year/96 million deal too. 16 mil per year.

Probably a big signing bonus, high salary at the end that can be cut / renegotiated. One can get why the Jets begged off: that's a lot of jack coming off an injury. And Revis always wants to renegotiate.

They didn't get a ton for him... though that's the difference between young & cheap talent and older & expensive talent. Everyone has to pay attention to the Cap.

Revis' contract has no guaranteed money, either. So it's not like the Bucs are committed to a lot... if he underperforms, they can cut him with no cap hit.

I'll repeat: If Revis doesn't perform well, the Bucs can cut him with ZERO CAP HIT.

That's a really good deal for the Bucs.

While the Pats have dominated the news for the past few weeks, the Jets have been quiet for the most part. And then this happened.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/06/26/bizarre-sanchez-video-appears-online/

The video is not worksafe at all. But this shows that Sanchez still has a ways to go to be treated seriously by the media etc.

Now's a good time for a Jets update. Tonight against the Giants, Geno Smith (returning from injury) was the starter and threw 3 INTs. He played through the 4th quarter, with sanchez taking over. Sanchez played with the 2nd/3rd team, and promptly got sacked and fumbled the ball. He also suffered a shoulder injury and had to leave the game.

I do have to say that there was no reason for Sanchez to play. He was the favorite to start Week 1, with Geno being injured. And after a mostly forgettable game, Sanchez being the starter was all but official. Now depending on if this injury is serious, the Jets will have no choice but to put in Geno as the starter (which will please some of the FO)

And if that wasnt enough, we got a future Coors light beer commercial out of it. With this:

Yeah I cant see Rex lasting the season with the Jets.

That whole thing was insane. I can't do any justice with a response, other than it was one of the more amazing pre-season things I've ever seen. :)

Part of me thinks Rex Ryan is trying to do whatever he can to get fired before the regular season even starts. It's pretty clear he knows he's a lame-duck coach who kept his job only because the new front office didn't want to bring in a new coach and have him take the fall for what will likely be a poor 2013 season and figured it was better to let Ryan take the fall.

I do think Rex Ryan could be a good coach with the right front office in place but he never had that while he worked under Mike Tannenbaum. Now he gets to hold the bag as this new front office tries to figure out how to get out of the mess Tannenbaum left behind.

Ah well... at least we'll continue to get entertainment value from it. :)

I think Rex all along wanted to be the New John Madden: get to a certain level of success, then retire in a blaze of glory into the TV booth. He probably would have liked to win a Super Bowl like Madden before doing it, but now is probably at the point where just getting to a Super Bowl and the week long orgy of media love would be enough.

Then... the last two years have happened, and the blow has come off the rose. Rather than instantly starting out near the top of the ladder (like Bill Walsh instantly getting a gig with Dick Enberg on broadcasts), Ryan now will need to work his way up from say the mid-card or second tier. He won't instantly replace Sims or Aikman or Gruden or Collinsworth. Some of those always were unlikely, but probably not in Ryan's mind... and if he kept the crest he reached of media love (and being pretty savvy with the media) in 2010-11, it's possible he would have started out fairly high.

I also wonder how many teams out there want him as a head coach. The end run of his time with the Jets has been a bit of a disaster. Someone might take a look at Mangini's time there and see that he went 10-6 and 9-7 with that 4-12 in the middle, with the 10-6 and 9-7 not that different from Ryan's first two seasons. No one is exactly banging down the door to give Mangini a job now, though the failure at the Browns helped seal that.

Anyway...

I still think Ryan's end game is in the TV booth. And that once he gets there, he probably will stay there.

We really need to make this like the Zeke Luv Thread of days gone by. Bookmark the NY Post to count the ways they make fun of the Jets. ;)

In the meantime, for your entertainment...

The Jets are 2-1, after 3 games. They just won a 27-20 game, over the Bills. Despite committing 20 penalities.

Geno is still hit or miss. Hes not at the level of Luck, or Russell Wilson. But he has continued to show, that he is the answer to the Jets' QB woes. Although at times, he shows signs like his predcessor, that the Jets dont want to see in their future QB.

The Jets are a mess... but proved that there are other teams that are just as big of messes. I'm trying to figure out if it's good to root for the Jets to make the playoffs so that Ryan saves his job. :P

So today this happened:

http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2013/9/29/4784592/geno-smith-accomplishes-buttfumble-2-0-reverse-buttfumble

This was not a good game for Geno. And the Jets in general. Blown out by the Titans.

Perhaps its Matt Simms time.

So the 6th seed, if the playoffs were today, Jets, signed Ed Reed. Reed was cut from the Texans, a few days ago. His post Super Bowl year hasnt been good from a football standpoint.

Now if this move is successful, then another genius move by Rex, who is known to do unconvential moves to shore up the defense. Plus there's the reunion with Rex being the Defensive coordinator for some of Reed's Ravens career.

But if this isnt a successful move, one wonders if this could be the beginning of the end of Rex (not to mention if they falter with their playoff hopes) Idzik was supposedly unethused with Rex's pursuit of Reed. I do think though Rex will stay the Coach for at least next year.

It seems as if Geno has been replaced by Matt Simms, after another ineffective game.

They're now 5-7 and their chance at the postseason is getting smaller and smaller.
