Here's the latest regarding Plaxico Burress and his brush with the law. The Giants placed him on the Non-football Injury list, meaning he's done for the year. He can't play another down.

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2008/12/new_york_giants_suspend_burres.html

Good to see the Giants acting swift, unlike other New York sports teams that take their time dealing with malcontents.

Here's a good article on Mayor Bloomberg and his stance on the incident:

http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/ny-spglaub025949261dec02,0,1644213.column

And here's where it gets moronic and stupid:

http://views.washingtonpost.com/theleague/nflcrimewatch/2008/12/plaxico-burress-or-harris-smith.html

Looks like Harris Smith is this year's Ron Mexico.

I think the worst part of this crap is that he dragged his fellow teammate into this, Antonio Pierce. Now Pierce could face some charges due to the incident. Now that would be a loss for the Giants. One of their leaders on the entire team, who would be missed if he has to miss games, since you know the Commish would suspend him. He would be a loss, unlike Plaxico who is a loser and perhaps has wasted his career on something stupid like this.

This is just a freaking nutty story. I hope the Giants are able to break his new contract and force him to give his bonus back. Of course someone out there, like The Raiders, will pick him up. But make him work for it.

Regarding Pierce, it remains to be seen what will turn up. If he truly didn't know Plaxico had a gun on him, then he'll likely escape any disciplinary action. If it is proven he covered up, the Giants are certain to suspend him for at least a game and NFL action will take place after court action comes down.

Regarding Plaxico, the Giants have already taken their action. I suspect NFL action will depend on the outcome through the courts, a lot which will depend on Plaxico's other brushes with the law. I would suspect any NFL suspension for Plaxico will relate to whatever jail time he serves, combined with how seriously he takes this in any meetings with Roger Goodell.

Recall when the likes of Tank Johnson, Chris Henry and Pacman Jones went before Goodell. Johnson had the one run-in with a weapons-related charge and was said to take the meeting seriously, so he got a shorter suspension than Henry and Jones, who each had multiple run-ins and seemed less concerned about consequences.

I'd guess if Burress gets a one-year jail/prison term, he'll get an equivalent NFL suspension after his term is served. If it goes three montns and probation, then Burress probably gets a four-game suspension.

As far as his contract goes, the Giants will likely handle it the same way the Falcons handled Michael Vick, depending on court rulings and Plaxico's sentence.

The real question now becomes what the Giants will do with Amani Toomer, who is eligible for free agency... before the Burress stuff came up, the Giants may have allowed Toomer to leave, but now, it's more likely they'll try to keep him for the veteran presence he brings.

I doubt the Giants will deal for another receiver and let the ones they currently have develop. Trade offers are not likely as both Anquan Boldin and Chad Johnson could be on the trading block this offseason, and Boldin is a better player than Burress. While Johnson has a mouth on him, at least he's kept his nose clean for the most part and doesn't skip team meetings when the mood suits him.

Plax's Giant career is over. Its for the best. even though his absence exposed the Giants' passing game, which might have been a factor for their playoff exit.

Now its up to the front office to see what they'll do regarding wide receivers. I think they may need to trade up for one.

Its things like this that make the Jets, a second-rate organization.

Here's hoping Plax does end up in the Jets. For the trainwreck factor mainly.

So the Jets are now in conflict because of Plax. But this is the risk that comes with wooing someone like Plax. One half of the organization doesn't want him (those in the right), and those who have the forgive and forget mentality.

After being Farve'd last year, why would they want the headache of Plex?

It's Mike Tannenbaum at work. Do whatever you can to make a splash and keep the New Yorkers happy... even if it ultimately backfires on you.

Goodall is really laying down the law here. Between Plax and Donte Stallworth, he's really taking action on stupidity.

I think there's a chance we may have seen the last of Plax in the NFL. Interest has faded. Even the Jets have rejected him it appears.

I have a feeling we wont be seeing Plax any time soon.

Luckily Pierce wont be charged for his actions. A huge relief there.

He's off to the slammer.

I hope some lessons get learned out of this. There really are far too many guns being carried around in this country, and far too many of them by people who are fucking dumb about handling them and/or just fucking dumb.

I doubt it.

Plax sort of resurfaces. I cant see him in a pivotal role again unlike Vick, though. His ship has sailed. Still I wouldnt be shocked if a sucker for a team tries to sign him. Like Oakland.

Too bad ABC doesn't have the SB this season, Plax's tearful puff piece would be perfect with Chris Connelly and his somber piano backing music. Tom Rinaldi can step in if Chris was otherwise predisposed.

The New York Post suggests "there is growing support within the Giants organization" to re-sign Plaxico Burress after he's released from the Oneida Correctional Facility on June 6.
Co-owners Steve Tisch and John Mara are sympathetic to Burress, and GM Jerry Reese acknowledged Monday that the team would at least consider bringing the troubled receiver back. Plax can look to Michael Vick for hope of a second chance in the NFL. The big difference, however, is that Vick was 29 when he signed with the Eagles while Plax turns 34 this summer.

I don't know. Depends on if Steve Smith is healthy and if the Giants are able to resign him. If not, I can see Plax being a possible part of the Giants. With that support, I can see a second chance regardless.

I still dont think he'll be able to replicate Vick's resurrection both on and off the field though.

Plax is a free man as of yesterday and speculation is rampant over where he'll go. He's said to want to leave NY. (Can you really blame him). Although depending on what Giant you talk to, they either want him or they accept that he's going to play for another team.

I say the favorites right now are the Eagles. He hinted at that by wearing a Phillies cap yesterday.
