It’s my pick for coach.
I’ll take Phil.
We running the triangle, which the entire roster ran sans Vlade and Nick.
Grinding teams to death with Kobe, Coop, Artest and Wilt.
Not to mention the absurd big man passing of Stilt, Pau and Vlade.
Want to run? How about Kobe and Big Game James filling the wings.
What a squad.

Steve - pick a coach. It's either Riley or Sharman. |

Jag - what's your preferred Kobe? Shaqkobe era 2000-2004 peak, post-Shaq 2006-2010 peak?
Steve - which West do you prefer? The earlier gunner of 1962-67, or the later one who handled the ball more in 1969-73?
I'm going to put together some stats for the players on the teams. Most everyone's run of 3-5 best years with the Lakers is pretty obvious. Kobe's is a matter of preference, as is Magic's, as is West's. I'll pick which Magic that I want. I would be interested in who you want. |

Kobe 24.
The first Kobe was marred by not quite there yet (2000) and rape year (2004).

I'll be happy with Sharman.....but I like Riley too. Sharman with a voice was great.
West was better before the title win. There was two years when he was hurt a lot. Everyone thought he was great, wasn't just me. The world thought that. He won the MVP in the finals on a losing team. |

We can do a new full re-draft after this season is over if you want.
I'd prefer a rule that you have to be a Lakers for at least 3 years to avoid stuff like Karl Malone being accidentally drafted. But I also understand the desire to get AD in.
Good lord... Yohe drafted D'Angelo Russell?
This will be KCP's 4th year with the team. If we go 12 deep, him might make it by matching last season - solid role play + title.
Kuzma is in his 4th, but I think he drives a lot of us nuts.
This shitty thing about re-drafting is that all my sleeper picks in the second half of the draft (McAdoo / Jones / Fox / Thompson / Green) are all exposed now. :P |

Looking at the final teams, and if we stick to 10 picks, the least likely to be taken again are likely these guys:
D'Angelo Russell
Karl Malone
Dick Barnett
Keith Erickson
Malone is a DQ. I'm not sure Russell would get drafted even if we go 12 rounds.
Barnett is an interesting sleeper by Yohe. He was good his first two years with the Lakers, but oddly feel off in his third. The Knicks fleeced us out of him for Bob Boozer, who was left exposed for the Bulls expansion draft. Barnett became an All Star with the Knicks before becoming a quality backcourt partner for Clyde Fraizer in the Knicks first title season. What looks like falling off in the Lakers title season was really just him being 35. The Knicks went out and got Pearl to take his spot the following year for the second title.
Good player. Anyone who could partner that well with Clyde in the 1969 to 1971 season in that collection of talent would be a good player. Kind of forgotten because of Wilis and Clyde and DeBusschere and Bradley (who Barnett probably had a better career than), and later Pearl and Lucas.
I bagged on a lot of picks by Steve, but this was a cool one.
On the other hand...
In the re-draft, Erickson gets to take a seat next to Chick. ;) |
