I agree with what has been said about Dr. Z. What I liked about him was that he followed his own mind instead of following what the masses believed. I know he was one of the first to point out how Brett Favre was regressing in his later years when the majority of pundits wouldn't think about criticizing him.

I can only imagine what he would be saying about some of the talking points going around in the MSM today. The topics du jour include Mark Sanchez, Cam Newton, Tony Romo, Tim Tebow, Chris Johnson, Stevie Johnson, Ndamuokong Suh, Andy Reid, and the list goes on. Dr. Z's opinions on these people certainly wouldn't be unique, but you would know his opinions are formed by what he observes, not what somebody else does or says.

I don't know if there will ever come a time in which Dr. Z will be able to write again, even if he is never able to speak again. But I am certainly glad he is able to find other ways to enjoy life.

And I second what John said... his wife Linda is an amazing woman.

NFL Films did something on Dr. Z and his current condition recently. It is worth a watch.

Doug Farrar wrote a very good column about Dr. Z, which includes some contributions from Z himself, along with Peter King, Mike Tanier and Mike Silver.

Paul Zimmerman passed away today at age 86. There are some tributes on SI for those who are interested.
