| Plausible that someone would have bought him tickets, still doesn't help his cause any. |

Very plausible. The concern would be if the Newton family agreed with and/or told Auburn that he would be there, than he suddenly goes. Clearly Cam knew he was there: he went looking for him.
It obviously isn't an NCAA violation to go. It's more in the sense that Rev Newton just doesn't care about what's agreed upon, or what's bad for any of the schools his son attended or might attend. Rules and agreements don't apply to him.
On the other hand, if the school knew he was going to be there but just wanted it no to be the "story" of the game so they denied he'd be there... it isn't good for the school's cred. The AD was on record he wouldn't be there, and the school seemed to distance itself from helping him get in, so it just wouldn't be good if the school later says it was in on it.
My earlier point is that this simply is indicative of Rev Newton:
If Rev Newton got money (i.e. the $$$ to fix the churches from "friends of Auburn"), I think this is just more proof that he is too dumb to have covered all the tracks. Nor probably cares.
If I were an Auburn fan, I'd be worried specifically because *he* is at the center of this. He's not exactly a smart criminal mind. :)

Paul Pasqualoni is now the new head coach at UConn.
I swear I didn't see this until I was at work and started to raise my hands in the sky like Andy Dufresne did when he escaped Shawshank.

Not surprisingly, Cam and Fairley go pro.
I'm wondering if one of the reasons Mr. Robinson is slow in committing to Michigan is that he's like to go play for Auburn are Cam 2.0. ;)

Missed this.
So they went from Wil E. Leachyote running the team & offense to boring Randy Edsall running the team and Crowton running the offense? Did Edsall happen to watch how screwed up LSU's offense was the last few seasons? How all that high school talent the recruited didn't develop into jackshit?
If I were a Maryland fan, I would turn in my season tickets. In fact, I'd walk down to the Athletic Department to turn them in personally.

Crowton's out: Let the search begin for LSU's new offensive messiah.
| Quote: | A good week for LSU fans – the Tigers turned in a promising Cotton Bowl win last Friday to seal a top-10 finish, and head coach Les Miles publicly spurned his alma mater in favor of deepening his roots in Baton Rouge – got a little better Thursday with news that maligned offensive coordinator Gary Crowton is on his way out: Louisiana's favorite scapegoat is signing on at Maryland to run the Terps' offense for newly hired Randy Edsall. It's not clear that Crowton was fired, necessarily, but the sentiment is clear enough: The Tigers' success the last two seasons has come in spite of one of the SEC's most impotent attacks, and with a golden opportunity at SEC and national championship runs in 2011, they can no longer afford the malaise.
Considering the talent on hand (every Les Miles recruiting haul since 2006 has come in ranked among Rivals' top 10 classes nationally), LSU's offensive nosedive since the 2007 BCS championship season – Crowton's first in Baton Rouge, on the heels of predecessor Jimbo Fisher – is shocking. The Tigers bottomed out in 2009, coming in dead last in the SEC in total offense, next-to-last in rushing and 10th in scoring; in 2010, they were 11th in total offense and brought up the rear in passing. Even mere mediocrity in 2008 was submarined by redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Lee and his endless parade of pick-sixes. In the draft, only two offensive players in four years under Crowton (third-rounders Early Doucet in 2008 and Brandon LaFell last year) have gone in the first four rounds, with no additions to that list expected this spring barring a gonzo effort or two at the combine. |
Crowton to Maryland – What happened?
| Quote: | The hint, however, may have come from back in his LaTech days, as described in this Sports Illustrated profile of Tim Rattay:
| Quote: | | Rattay also liked Crowton, the mastermind behind what some people in football call a “global offense” for its anything-goes approach to moving the ball. As a journeyman assistant, Crowton studied under LaVell Edwards, Mike Holmgren and Tom Coughlin, among others, and at Tech he has established his reputation as a formation geek who really likes to chuck the ball. Having run out of numbers with which to label his plays, Crowton, who became head coach in 1996, turned to the heavens for inspiration. “We’ve got formations called Moon, Sun, Stars and Mars,” he says. “Something we did looked like a star, so I called it that. I know our offense is unique, and people are starting to take notice. We had about 200 college coaches come visit last year to learn what we’re doing.” |
That’s all well and good, but when Auburn’s Gus Malzahn talks about having only ten base plays — four runs and six passes — maybe less is more. Indeed, when it comes to installing more offense (and defense), there is such a thing as subtraction by addition. But Crowton remains a bright guy, so hopefully he can streamline his system for that Maryland team. Remember, the Maryland fans almost had Mike Leach, and he only has about twenty plays and four or five formations. It worked for him. |

Brady Hoke is saying that Robinson if coming back, and that he'll adjust the normal pro-style offense he runs to work with that Robinson has. But you do wonder that IF Robinson starts thinking about transfering to Auburn... and IF he can do it without sitting out. I wonder if those Friends of Auburn have any money left over after the "donations" to Mr. Newton's church. ;)

Auburn OL coach Jeff Grimes has turned down the same position on Mack Brown's staff at Texas after an interview.
Dee Hart and Hasean Clinton-Dix, two Alabama committees from Dr Phillips High in Florida, apparently did not make their official visit to USC. Reports said they were to visit this weekend, but that was news to both Hart and Clinton-Dix.
Speaking of Alabama, 5* LB Brent Calloway of Russellville, the #1 Rivals player in Alabama, who had been committed to Alabama for almost a year and a half, changed his commitment to Auburn at the US Army All-American Game earlier this month. That national title karma coming into play, not to mention all that Tigers Unlimited cash. ;)
Of the top 8 recruits from Alabama on Rivals (all of the 4 and 5 *), half of them are now Auburn commits with another heavy Auburn lean, including the top 3 on the list. However, jdw's boys get a chance to mess with the lean this weekend. :P

The problem with getting Robinson that if he does transfer Michigan will likely not waive the required one-year sit. With Kiehl Frazier in this year's recruiting class, we may not necessarily need Robinson by then. We may be better off using that money to donate to Ray Drew's church down in Thomasville. ;)

Houston Nutt and Ole Miss admit that they accidentally cheated. And apparently Nutt is on the Rules Committee, even...
| Quote: | OXFORD — What Ole Miss says was a mistake by its football coaching staff in interpreting new NCAA legislation resulted in the school docking itself opportunities to contact seven class of 2012 recruits - and what appears to be a warning from the NCAA.
The school reported the violations in an Oct. 10 letter to the Southeastern Conference. It said that a letter, signed by coach Houston Nutt, extended a scholarship to seven juniors on Sept. 14.
But NCAA legislation enacted on Aug. 1, 2010, prohibits written scholarship offers to juniors.
In a Nov. 30 letter, the NCAA accepted UM's version of the events as a secondary violation and took no further action. But it also offered this warning: "... please note that future similar violations may result in more significant penalties, including suspension of coaching-related activities for one or more contests." |
More detail in article. The "b-b-b-but I didn't know" part comes from the letters being sent to the prospect's HS coaches, not the prospects directly. No, that's still against the rules, Nutter...

Going over the Auburn graduation/pro impact....yeesh....
Offense:
QB Cam's going pro obviously so we'll need a new QB, probably Barrett Trotter
HB Mario Fannin was #3 on the depth chart, both Dyer (will be soph) and McCalebb (will be a jr) will be back for next season.
FB/H-Back/TE both Smith and Lutzenkirchen are underclassmen, so no impact there.
WR With the news that Darvin Adams is going pro, that basically leaves Emory Blake and Quindarious Carr of the receivers that saw significant playing time last season that will return.
4 of 5 starters on offensive line are seniors.
So we're looking at three starters coming back. Yeah, that's def a rebuilding year next year.
Defense:
All of the defensive line are done. There were four seniors on the d-line two-deep this season, Fairley was a junior and is going pro.
LBs: Stevens and Bynes are seniors, leaving Daren Bates as the sole returning starting linebacker.
CBs: Demond Washington (who is also the KR) is a senior. Neiko Thorpe will be back.
S: Aairon Savage and Zac Etheridge are seniors. Mike McNeil will be back, he shared playing time with Savage due to injuries.
So the defense is returning two/three starters (depending on your view of Savage/McNeil).
Yeah, Chad, your guys have a good shot at us next year, as does the rest of the SEC ;P

Houston QB Case Keenum, surprisingly, has been granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA for this season and will return for the 2011 season, his 6th.
Former West Virginia QB Brian Brunetti, who announced a month ago that he would be transferring, will be heading to Ole Miss. Brunetti's family is from Memphis, which is not far from the Ole Miss campus in Oxford. He will apply to the NCAA for a waiver of the one-year requirement to sit out, citing hardship due to his mother's poor health.
The two top candidates at this point for the OC job at LSU are Chad's favorite head coach Steve Kragthorpe, and TCU OC Justin Fuente. Kragthorpe started the season as WR coach at Texas A&M, but resigned mid-season due to medical issues, as his wife has multiple sclerosis. |
